I swear, Karen Berry made me do this. She's the only one I have kept up with from Ike. It's amazing how she looks EXACTLY the same as we did in high school -- quite disgusting, if you ask me (oops, I forgot she'll read this). So, after I got my B.S. in Biology at Central WA Univ. (thanks, Mr. Bongers for inspiring me!), I turned down vet school (too many spayings & neuterings for me) and ended up with an M.S. in Microbiology and Immunology. I've been a clinical microbiologist for most of my career, with a smattering of molecular biology research here & there. Swore I'd never get married. Got married. Played in a rock band with my husband for a couple of years, and then raised two gorgeous and talented stepdaughters. We like to travel (New Mexico, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, and definitely Portland, OR -- where Karen and our daughter Elyse live) and generally live a quiet life here in Okie-land. Oh, I ended up in Oklahoma cuz at CWU I worked with chimps that know sign language who were originally from Oklahoma. Yeah, there was a cute guy involved, naturally. Isn't that why we all end up moving somewhere?! |

The highlight of my days in high school wasn't when I got tapped for the Honor Society, or when I wrote for the 5 Star Journal. Oh, no. It was when I braided my long hair and wrapped the braids into buns over my ears, donned a white choir robe, encased a canister vacuum with foil, and then paraded out during a pep rally as Princess Leia -- dragging R2D2/vacuum behind me. I have no idea or memory of how I got talked into that one. I mean, it's not like I was a cheerleader or anything(?). |
